As we age, we loose muscle. This is known as sarcopenia.

The benefit of doing muscle exercises such as lifting weights, even light weights, is that is builds muscle.

Muscle weighs more, it can explain why you aren't loosing weight. It also needs more energy to survive, so having more muscle can lead to weight loss.
